Trip Description: We
will be base camping at Goose Island State Park with direct access to the
bay. This is a great trip to kayak the Gulf coast bays. We'll be both
touring the bays, and doing some fishing in Copano Bay and St. Charles Bay.
People usually fish for Speckled trout and Reds. Don't forget your fishing
license! If you don't have one already, you can purchase one at the park.
Our schedule will be decided by wind and conditions. We also have the option
of doing the Lighthouse paddling trail near Port Aransas. Early
Campsite Reservations are a must- Reservations will open for Thanksgiving
weekend 5 months in advance, so set a calendar alert to make reservations
the last week of June, as the snowbirds book up this park. If you reserve, what
you want is bay front elec. water premium campsites #1 thru #44. I would
highly suggest you reserve as soon as reservations open, as you can always cancel later.
Youʼll want your own site for a camping trailer. TPWD Reservations #
512-389-8900.
Meals: On
Saturday night we will have our Thanksgiving Potluck featuring Cajun Fried
Turkey and your favorite side or dessert. Bring food and cooking supplies for all other meals. Be prepared to take a
lunch and water with you on our day trips.
Gear: Kayaks
and sit on tops are best suited for bay paddling, but some have used canoes.
This time of year, weather can be all over the place, so bring a good tent
and all weather protection for yourself. Again, If you plan to fish don't
forget your fishing license. Be sure and bring a PFD, a Whistle, and (an
anchor for your boat, if you plan to fish). If you have a GPS device you
might want to bring that also. Directions from Dallas: 1. Take i-35 south to Austin, then hwy. 183 to Goliad, then after
passing Goliad take hwy. 239 east to Tivoli,Tx., then south on hwy. 35 to Lamar, TX. and left at the Exxon
station onto Park Road 13. which will be right before you get to Copano
Bay.( If you get to the bay bridge you've gone to far.) Follow the park road
13 east to Goose Island state park. |
