Well...if your answer is yes, then come on over to Castell on the first Saturday of June and show us your talents. The kayak races will start from the Northwest side of the Hwy. 87 bridge on the Llano River - you know...right there at Keller’s. From there, make your way to Castell via the Llano River in your own kayak or one that you’ve rented from either Crockett Keller on the Northwest side of the Hwy. 87 bridge or from Randy Leifeste at the Castell General Store. The finish line is at the Castell river crossing. That’s about 12 river miles. Once you’ve finished your race, come on up to the old General Store and enjoy some great barbecue, cold libations, and local musicians pick’n out some great tunes. If you’re a musician and want to be heard, come on out! Back at Castell while we’re waiting on the Kayak racers to cross the finish line, we’ll be having some fun ourselves. There’s going to be a rock sculpting contest. See how high you can stack your rocks...be creative. The trick is, you have to build your creation IN THE RIVER!! For those with a little less imagination, how about skipping some rocks? Do you have a good arm? Prove it! We’ll be having the first annual rock skipping contest! You will compete against others with or without experience. So tell those you know that brag about their rock skipping abilities to PROVE IT! Kids will have their own category for both events! So, mark your calendars and come on out for a great time. No pre-registration for the kayak race. All kayak participants will register at Keller’s Store starting at 8:00 AM. Entry fee is $25. The race will begin at 10:00 AM sharp. Shuttle service will be available.
