Dallas Down River Club formally invites you and your family or friends to help us haunt Goat Island on Friday Oct. 26th thru the 28th. Camp will be at the usual location on the Southwest corner of Goat Island near Pine Needle Lodge. Put-in and take out will be at the Pine Needle Lodge alternate area which is located just past the entrance to Pine Needle Lodge.
No dogs will be allowed this year. No parking will be allowed at Pine Needle Lodge, Please park at the alternate area. Maps of the route to Goat Island will be at the boat ramp. All parking fees will be collected at the registration table on Goat Island. The burn ban has been lifted in the Caddo Lake area, please bring as much firewood as you can and leave any that you are unable to carry in your own boat at the ramp and Caddoween Volunteers will see to its transportation. The lake level is low, expect the boat ramp and the landing at Goat Island to be muddy. Saturday, the 27th, will include several events and contests: 12:00 - Start of the pumpkin carving contest. Bring uncarved pumpkin, knives, candles, pattern, etc. Judging starts after dark. Plan on taking pumpkin home with you as they are not natural to Goat island! 2:00 - Pinata for the kids 4:30 - Dutch oven cook-off - have your entry ready at this time so we can eat it for dinner! 5:00 - pot luck dinner - please bring enough for your group. To Caddo Lake, Texas: From Dallas: Take I-20 East to Marshall, exit US Hwy 59, turn left (North). Watch for the state park sign just past an overhead bridge. Turn right (East) at SH 43, go approximately 14 miles to Karnack. Follow SH 43 as it bears left towards the state park. To Pine Needle Lodge: Continue on SH 43 past the state park turnoff, cross the bayou bridge and turn right on the next real road, FM 805. Continue until the pavement ends and bear right to Pine Needle Lodge. As you go thru the gate, notice parking on both sides of road. Boat ramp is at the end. Unload your vehicle and move it quickly as space at the boat ramp is at a premium. There is a $2.00 per day per vehicle charge payable to Ann or Barry Bennick, the owners of Pine Needle Lodge. Please respect their property. To Pine Needle Lodge Alternate: Follow Pine Needle Lodge directions, but continue past Pine Needle to the next right. The turn will be signed so you cannot miss it. Registration slips will be located in a container at the ramp. Write your name and tag number on it and drop it off along with your parking fee Pine Needle Lodge on your way over to Goat Island. Everyone over the age of 17 must have a Limited Use Permit to be on Goat Island. State Park Passes DO NOT COUNT! Failure to obtain a State-issued Limited Use Permit WILL result in fines, if you get caught. Limited Use Permits are available at most sporting goods stores for $12.00, and are good for up to one year (depending upon purchase date) ending the following August 31.
